The Specialist of Laboratory Equipment will utilize the Sourcing Management Process (SMP) for strategic analysis of suppliers, supply markets and supply chains within the categories of spend. The position will be part of Research & Development Sourcing & Procurement organization. The Specialist will report to an Associate Director-Laboratory Equipment. The ideal candidate should have an interest in learning drug discovery and development process and applying business skills to support sourcing needs for internal business partners.
Primary Activities:
Work with cross functional teams including Legal, Finance, Procure to Pay, MRL (Merck Research Labs) stakeholders, and external suppliers
Learn and apply the Sourcing Management Process by assisting a sourcing team to develop laboratory equipment sourcing strategy
Conduct detailed supply market analysis looking at facts and data, with the objective of providing deep and meaningful insights
Utilize e-sourcing tools to conduct Request For Information, Request for Proposals from suppliers, and Reverse Auctions
Develop legal fluency through contract execution
Develop negotiation skills by leading commercial negotiations and contract execution
Opportunities for advanced training in negotiation, project management, and cost modeling
Education Minimum Requirement:
BS in science or business
Required Experience and Skills:
Requires at least 2 years of work experience in pharma or related industries.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
An understanding of Merck Research Labs role in the drug development process experience and managing international business relationships is highly desirable.
Excellent communication skills.
Must be adaptable in dealing with ambiguous and complex environments.
Able to effectively manage work within diverse cross functional teams to achieve client, Division, and Company goals.
Proficiency in Excel - i.e.pivot tables

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
