Custom Engineering Solutions




  • The incumbent will be responsible for the development, engineering design, fabrication, evaluation, repair, adjustment, and/or modification of various types of mechanical, electronic, electrical, electro-mechanical, optical and liquid handling equipment for laboratory automation systems, robot systems, and scientific instrumentation.

  • He/she will need to collaborate with scientific customers, other team members, facilities staff, and external vendors to develop solutions and solve unique and spontaneous problems. This will involve working independently on multiple technically challenging projects simultaneously to provide timely, practical, cost effective solutions.

  • He/she should be familiar with computer control concepts to assist in trouble-shooting and implementing computer based lab automation and instrumentation; including laboratory robots, instruments, data acquisition equipment, computers, interfaces, controllers, and other peripheral equipment.

  • He/she should also be able to read schematics and troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate a variety of electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, optical, and liquid handling equipment and robotic and automation equipment.





Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:¬ 



BS or higher or equivalent work experience in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field



Required Experience and Skills:¬ 




  • Mastery of 3D mechanical design software:



    • Solidworks

    • AutoCAD

    • Pro/Engineer


  • Mastery of rapid prototyping techniques & equipment, including:



    • Milling machines (Centroid & Prototrak)

    • Lathe

    • 3D Printer (Dimension)

    • Band Saw

    • Sander

    • Grinder

    • Sheet Metal Brake

    • Electromechanical assembly


  • Familiarity with electronic test equipment



    • Multimeter

    • Oscilloscope




Preferred Experience and Skills:




  • Experience with the following helpful:



    • Laboratory device design

    • Electronic circuit design & fabrication

    • Microcontroller programming


  • Experience with the following software helpful:



    • Labview

    • Visual Studio

    • Excel

    • C
